'They are hands, not people' Packages get more attention than the people who deliver

The AD recently published an article about abuses in the logistics sector. At Bikeshift, we do things differently. We have been committed to fair work and being a good employer for years.

Research by Ruben Timmerman, which Peter de Jong recently published in the Algemeen Dagblad, again shows that a lot goes wrong in the logistics sector. Abuses around working conditions, sham constructions and lack of care for employees are unfortunately still common.

This is exactly what Bikeshift has been actively opposing for years. With our campaign “The best delivery drivers delivered better”, we call attention to good employment practices and fair working conditions in e-commerce and last-mile delivery.

With better delivery, we emphasise our people.
Our employees are Our Priority which means, among other things:

✅ Always work with an employment contract, no zzp constructions;
✅ Provide intensive supervision, before, during and after working hours;
✅ Offer advancement opportunities within our organisation;
✅ Have daily contact with our employees to see how we can do things better;
✅ And of course being SNA-certified and a member of the ABU

Timmerman's survey painfully shows that there is still much work to be done in the sector. At the same time, steps are fortunately being taken - such as the introduction of the new collective agreement for temporary workers from 1 January 2026, which focuses on equal pay for permanent and flexible employees.

Nevertheless, it is important to emphasise that the staffing industry not only presents challenges but also opportunities. For many starters, for instance, temping is a valuable stepping stone to work experience and growth, and its flexibility also meets the needs of many young people. And there are countless temporary employment organisations that work hard every day to make sure everything is just right - with respect for rules, employees and fair work.
